DEA Bans Consumption of Hemp Foods

DEA Bans Consumption of Hemp Foods,Drug Reform Coordination Network
'You'd have to smoke a joint the size of a telephone pole to get high,' is the analogy people often use when talking about the potency of hemp. But that doesn't matter to DEA chief Asa Hutchinson, who recently announced the ban of the consumption of food products containing hemp oil, hemp seed, or any other product containing any quantity of THC -- no matter how minute. The DEA's rationale is that if a product causes THC to enter the human body, it should be considered an illegal substance. Products like textiles, soaps, lotions and shampoos are not banned because they do not enter the body. Still, the ban has left producers, merchants, and consumers of hemp products confused as to what is illegal and what isn't. The DEA is allowing a grace period until Feb. 6 for merchants and producers stuck with the now-illegal inventory to dispose of the products.
